MIHALY (MIKE) LUKACS

Peacefully, in the comfort of his home and the presence of his beloved wife, Mihaly (Mike) Lukacs passed away on February 8, 2026.

Mihaly was born in Vajdacska, Hungary on January 21, 1932. He left Hungary during the revolution in 1956 in search of a better life in Canada. Mihaly worked in the construction industry and was a lifelong member of the Iron Workers Union. He was blessed to have made many lasting friendships through his work and the Hungarian community.

Years later, on a trip to Hungary he met the love of his life, Jolan, and the two married in April 1967. They returned to Canada to begin their life together and were blessed with two beautiful daughters.

Mihaly enjoyed dancing, socializing, playing cards, and his favourite pastime of all, gardening. His signature rose bushes could be seen by passersby, and his garden fed friends and family alike, as he so generously shared everything he had with his loved ones.

He was a devoted father, grandfather, and proud great-grandfather, who centred his life around family and faith. Mihaly is lovingly remembered by his wife Jolan; his two daughters, Erika (Mike), and Susan (Chad); four grandchildren, Colton (Ashley), Kristin, Kaitlyn, and Connor; and great-granddaughter Brooklyn. He is predeceased by his parents, Maria and Jozsef; siblings, Jozsef, and Elizabeth; and nephews, Laszlo, and Jozsef.

Sincere thanks to the many physicians who supported his care, the Palliative Care Program, and Partners for Home Care and their great team who supported Mihaly in the final months of his life.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place at 11:00 a.m., with reception to follow. A private interment will take place at St. Vital Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
